Last Saturday I joined the lovely Rachel + Kieran for their summery wedding photos at Grangefields Barn, a swish Wedding Barn venue near Ashborne in Derbyshire!
Over the years I’ve done lots of wedding photography in Derbyshire and have shot at four of the stunning Cripps and Co converted barn wedding venues, but this was my first time at Grangefields. And as you arrive and drive down the long private drive you really feel part of the landscape.
With its sweeping views of undulating Derbyshire countryside, Grangefields really is the perfect wedding venue!
Being a lover of all things equestrian, Rachel asked a horsey friend Ceri-Anne (from Plant Magic incorporating Animal Magic, in Loughborough) if she’d bring her ponies Calypso and Melody along to the wedding as a surprise! And they made the perfect flower girls, with plaited manes, decked in flora and even sporting champagne holsters. It was brilliant seeing the reaction of an unknowing bridesmaid when they turned up…
You know what I’ve often thought was missing at weddings? Pettable Shetland Ponies!
While I was with Team Bride in Grangefield’s Farmhouse, my wingman Martyn Hand joined team groom for a relaxing morning’s preparations at a Nether Burrows Farm in nearby Ashborne. We reconnected under the soaring vaulted ceilings of the red-brick barn for a delightful ceremony. Kieran was moved to tears as Rach came down the aisle with her proud dad. I do love to see a bit of male emotion at a wedding and these guys not only so clearly in love, but just lovely together!
After striding down a tunnel of confetti, the newlyweds circulated through congratulations (and pony cuddles). We did a quick round of groups and portraits in the warming sunshine, followed by fizz and delicious canapes, then headed into the charming Dutch barn – with it’s swanky open kitchen and fire grill – for the main event; a smokey steak and chimichurri dinner!
A round of hilarious, moving speeches and quick spin in the golden evening sunshine, and the cake mum had lovingly made was cut! First dance was nailed – complete with multiple lifts – then flip flops were donned and the dancefloor torn up to the Entourage Band!
What a blast this day was! It’s hard to imagine somewhere better than Grangefields to celebrate in style. Jade, Shelby, Tim and the team were an pleasure to work with!
Then to top things off, a few days later I received this thank you card from a guest, who recommended me having seen me at a wedding no less than 16 years ago!
