Saltmarshe Hall really is one of my favourite wedding venues in all of East Yorkshire and it’s easy to see why!
It’s perfectly located in the isolated village of Saltmarshe (surrounded by tonnes of ‘watch out for hedgehogs’ signs!) not far from Howden and Goole, on the north bank of the River Ouse.
There are various beautiful places to get ready in the morning, from the Appletree cottages a short walk away, the smartly finished Saltmarshe Stables or up the grand staircase in the grade II* listed 19th-century country house.
Weddings at Saltmarshe Hall strike that perfect blend of being exclusive, grand and high quality luxury accommodation, but while being relaxed and fun.
While all reception rooms inside the Hall are licensed for weddings, Saltmarshe Hall have found an option for outdoor ‘Sapphire ceremonies’? With 17 acres of beautiful grounds it makes sense to celebrate under the woodland canopy!
I always try to capture a relaxed story of the day, and it’s not hard in a venue that’s so stunning inside and out!
All the rooms are licensed for ceremonies at Saltmarshe Hall – so there’s room (literally a room) for every occasion!
Ceremonies at Saltmarshe are conducted by the East Riding registration service, who can be a little strict on the photography during the service, but at the outdoor ceremonies they do relax the rules a little!
There’s nothing like a big confetti moment after the ceremony!
Having two photographers in most of my photography collections helps me capture two angles on this lovely moment!
Once I’ve quickly shot a set of relaxed family and wedding party group shots, I try to take my couples on a short lap around the lush 7-hectare estate, for some chilled out portraits.
Then it’s back to the party to enjoy the fun and games (and fizz!) at the wedding reception.
The wedding breakfast is generally in the bright white room of the hall, and the team there have a great ethos to listen to what couples want; not enforcing off-the-shelf packages, thereby letting couple’s creative input shine through.
One ceremony I shot there chose to host their meal and evening reception in a Papakata Sperry tipi Tent, which looked quite the part on the Saltmarshe Lawn!
While some of my packages end when the meal is served, I’m often booked to stay on to photograph the evening reception, covering speeches, evening sunset portraits, the first dance and evening knees up!
I’ve found the sunsets to be impressively dramatic at Saltmarshe Hall!
Once the band gets underway, and ties start going round heads, we usually bid our happy couples farewell and leave the party to rock on!

It’s so important to me that my couples have a fab experience with me, and these reviews from real couples on Google and Facebook are great to read, straight from the horse’s mouth:
