Yesterday I photographed the outstanding wedding of Lucy & Joel at The Tithe Barn at Bolton Abbey – a wonderfully restored 16th-century barn overlooking Bolton Abbey near Skipton in the stunning Yorkshire Dales! It’s right up there as one of the best venues in my top 10 Yorkshire barn wedding venues list!
The Tithe Barn near Skipton: a huge exclusive-use Grade II listed wedding barn in the Yorkshire Dales
This was such a perfect wedding! A gorgeous, fun couple – very much in love – surrounded by lovely folk, fabulous planning and creative details throughout.
My wingman Paul and I joined the wedding party for their relaxed preparations at The Devonshire Arms – just a hop, skip and a jump down the road from the Tithe Barn.
Once Mum and the Maid of Honour helped Lucy into her outstanding gown, it was just lovely to do a private father-of-the-bride reveal. Lucy and her dad have a shared love of movies, and have a beautiful tradition of watching the Steve Martin classic ‘Father of the Bride’ every Christmas Eve. There were so many secret ‘Easter eggs’ from the film dotted throughout the day, and you could see just how special it is to them. Even Dad’s classic Austin-Healey sports car (his beloved pandemic lockdown restoration project!) is a sibling of the car in the film…
“I realised at that moment that I was never going to come home again and see her at the top of the stairs.” – The Father of The Bride
I just love that this father-daughter moment had been coming since Lucy was a little girl, and it was just adorable to be there to see it…
Once the full bridesquad came screaming in (including a rabble of adorable flower girls and a dear ‘Bridesman’), it was ceremony time! Joel & Lucy didn’t make it to the end of the aisle with dry eyes, especially with her cousin (and a good pal of mine) Matt Baxter serenading them down the aisle. Once done, and under the threat of looming drizzle, we headed out for congratulatory cuddles and confetti! We somehow managed to smash out all the formals and portraits and get inside just in time!
There’s no better wedding photography background than the view from The Tithe Barn, overlooking Wharfedale’s stunning Bolton Abbey
One thing the Tithe Barn does well is grilled meats! I’ve eaten a lot of wedding food in my days, and the rare sliced steaks with chimichurri and potato dauphinoise were divine! The speeches and best man roast, followed by Baby Guinness shots, set the vibes for the evening knees-up!
Sadly their cocker spaniel Stanley didn’t attend (on account of being too wired), but he was there in spirit, jumping up on the wedding cake as it was cut! Before we knew it, the first dance was done and the evening shenanigans were in full force!
I do love shooting weddings in Yorkshire, and it’s always lovely to be shooting in The Dales at this amazing Yorkshire barn wedding venue again! Big thanks to all the suppliers, and Holly and Team Tithe for being ace. It was such a pleasure to spend the day capturing their special day, and I hope you enjoy their wedding highlights slideshow below…

What a day?! Such and awesome couple and incredible wedding!

Here’s wishing this pair (and their fur baby Stanley!) huge congratulations and an amazing honeymoon in November to the States and St Lucia!
Big love,
♥️ Barnaby
