Yesterday I joined Emily & Aaron for their wedding photos at The Priory Barn & Cottages near Wetherby in Yorkshire!
I always love shooting at The Priory, and especially when it’s a relaxed, family-focussed wedding like this. For these guys, it was all about having their two kids and their cousins run free, surrounded by close family and friends.
Tucked away on a working farm in tranquil North Yorkshire countryside, Priory Barn & Cottages makes for a great kid friendly wedding venue
I had a fun morning ducking between the wedding party in adjacent cottages (complete with a ‘Bridesman’ and a ‘Groomswoman’). It was nice to imaginatively capture all the details; from an ancient pocket watch and gran’s jewellery tied to the bouquet, to their daughter’s dress / pocket squares made out of the mother of the bride’s wedding dress (nice idea!). (It was also fun trying to capture a 6’8″ tall groom having his button hole pinned on by his 5’7″ best man).
A romantic midday ceremony was held upstairs in the barn, and nature marked the moment they kissed with a clap of thunder! It decided to rain as we did the signature confetti shot over the balcony, and let the drinks flow (which they do when guests are mainly Geordies!) until the weather cleared.
Once it did, we did a few quick group pics then the newlyweds and I took a walk round to the orchard to deliver personal vows to one other. It was so special to be part of, and drew a tear from all of us… I could do this at every wedding, as it’s such a beautiful personal moment to be part of.

Touching speeches were delivered in the marquee before a delicious beef bourguignon. Once mains were cleared, a singing waiter broke cover and burst into song! As always, Steve Michaels spun the room into a conga-line of napkin waving musical chaos. Always great value to pap!
The good thing about an early wedding is a nice lazy afternoon relaxing with guests (giving everyone time to work through the 6kg of Haribo they laid on!). So as the evening sun turned golden, I took this sweet pair for a final stroll, before the chaos of cake cutting and dancing! Half way through first dance (Nat King Cole, also crooned by Steve), the kids piled on for a swing, then a father daughter dance was done to The Temptations ‘My Girl’, before letting rip from Motown to Robbie to Ed Sheeran…
I do love shooting weddings in Yorkshire and it’s always lovely to return to this old faithful friend of a venue. Amy and her team still rock a seamless day, and there’s a reason why Priory Cottages is still number 1 one on my Top 10 Wedding Barns Venues in Yorkshire (check it out to view the others!).
