Travel Prints // Selecting holiday photographs for the bedroom [by Barnaby Aldrick Photography]

After blogging two wonderful short breaks to Paris (blog here) and Bergamo (blog here) earlier this year, two things occurred to me i) images with text over them look ace and ii) like a builder who never finishes his kitchen, I’m a photographer who’s had empty frames in the bedroom waiting to be filled since […]

Happy New Year folks! I hope you had a lovely cele Happy New Year folks! I hope you had a lovely celebration last night!

On the 8th day of Christmas my true love gave to me... CONFETTI! And what a perfect way to welcome in a both newlyweds and New Year!

You'd think after almost 20 years of shooting it, I might have lost the love for confetti, but YOU'D BE WRONG!

On an ideal day, it's dry and the couple skip down the aisle, get a massive congratulatory hug from at least half the guests, then I hop up on a chair and begin the herding of fog for an epic confetti shot! 🎉

I discuss at the pre-wedding practice shoot about whether a couple fancy a confetti tunnel or my 'signature' CONFETTI BOMB! Both are ace, and as you'll see in these fave confetti moments from all the wonderful weddings from LAST YEAR, both rock!

The TUNNEL is the trad option, and in my experience and in spite of cheerfully telling guests to throw over and not at the couple, has a potential tendency of looking like the couple are being hailed with gravel (and even get it in their mouths half way down the line!).

The BOMB on the other hand is done (often after the everyone group shot) within a sea of guests and they all throw at once while a the newlyweds smooch! This semi negates mouth confetti; though the couples champagne glasses usually end up full of petals or rice paper!

Pro Tip: Avoid dusty small bitty lavender-y dried eBay confetti, as it's a nightmare to pick out of bridal hair! IMO colourful, biodegradable, or mid to large petals work best!

I pride myself in making them awesome and quick, so guests can get back to canapés / binge drinking while I power through the family shots!

I hope you enjoy the selection and have a very Happy New Year indeed! What kinda confetti are you considering?!

Happy New Year's Eve! Forgive me for flogging on Happy New Year's Eve!

Forgive me for flogging on with the days of Christmas here, but as it's a time to celebrate the welcoming in a new year... on the 7th day of Christmas my true love gave to me…
EVENING PARTY SHENANIGANS!

Essentially, a wedding is one big party, right?! And from the cake cut onwards, we are ALL in party mode! And I'm not going home until I've captured it!

I love the frisson of setting up flashes for both an awesome cake cut shot followed immediately by first dance and the subsequent pile on. The blaze of trying to get a couple's big twirl, or routine, and then capture the father daughter dance, or the crazy characters rocking out, cutting loose and cutting shapes.

Across 2025 we had a pre-first dance Italian tradition of 'the 'auctioning of the tie' where a rawcuss team literally cut the grooms tie to ribbons and sold off the parts to cover the couples honeymoon (nice idea!). Then after first dance the musical groom proceeded to join the band to play a bluegrass rendition of Toy Story's 'You've Got A Friend In Me'! You can't write this stuff.

I just love doing what I do and don't work to a clock, or number of hours coverage, I go when I'm happy that the evening shenanigan story has been told! So I hope you love these fave evening party moments picked from across 2025's fab weddings! Do check out end of year blog if you'd like to see more!

ps. Remember to head over to my blog to see my lovingly curated 2025 end of year round-up tomorrow morning from 9am!

On the 5th day of Christmas my true love gave to m On the 5th day of Christmas my true love gave to me… (I've been waiting for this one!) FIVE GOLDEN RINGS!

We all know that's the best line in the song right?! And it's just too good for wedding photos, as I'm taking pics of rings at every wedding!

I love trying to make a ring shot special. It's often harder than it looks, to add a bit of frame filling story and context around a couple of 'unbroken circles'! But they are so significant to the couple; the outward symbol of their union (I'm paraphrasing from the ceremony script I've heard a thousand times!) and even the colour and style they've chosen, will be worn until death do them part.

So it's more than just a snap of a wedding detail, it's a potentially creative opportunity to say something about them back to them with their rings. Be that the safe hands they're in, or the moment of exchange.

Or that the groom had to sellotape scraps of initialled paper to each ring box last-minute to guide his 'best' man when his moment comes!

On the 4th day of Christmas my true love (photogra On the 4th day of Christmas my true love (photography!) gave to me… MORNING PREPARATIONS!

The morning of a wedding day is super special to me. It allows me to get to know the key characters in the wedding party and for them to get to know (and to get used to) me as the photographer who'll be around them all day!

I find it one of the most creative parts of the day because there's no script! Unlike the unwritten rules of where you're allowed to be in the ceremony / for the speeches / first dance, every preparation space is different and a little bit electric! The wedding is afoot, and best laid plans are in place!

I try not to dominate, and dip in and out of the bride and grooms spaces with a bit of helpful organisation (almost like a secret bridesmaid), grabbing moments between people with good humour, then nipping off when I feel a break is needed, to capture details or a dress shot.

It's important for me for the players not to feel I'm somehow intruding, and yet I'm able to stretch those creative muscles. Instead of just capturing a dress hanging up like a ghost, I might wait till I see bridesmaids showing it to the flower girl and make something more of it. Or draw focus on a bride's hand holding tight to her mum's hand while getting into the dress.

It's not only a wonderful opportunity to capture all those magic relationship details, but also to go somewhere different, such as on the park run with the groomsmen, or see a bride show off the surprise ponies to team bride.

Those 3-ish hours I put into setting the scene and documenting the preparations, are like a virtual caffeine hit to get me charged and set for the wedding ahead!
Following on from 2025's daily themed highlights f Following on from 2025's daily themed highlights for the 12 days of Christmas... On the 3rd day of Christmas my true love (photography!) gave to me… THE PORTRAITS!

Whether it's night or day, sunny or rainy, I love that there's always portrait treasure to be found! These are a few of my faves from across the weddings I've photographed in 2025.

I try to get this section of the day done in 15-20mins, and it helps speed things along by having been trained at the pre-wedding practice shoot I do with every couple (see slide 2 for a wedding and 'pre-wedding' portrait from Harneet + Sid's lovely wedding).

I've always found a pre-wedding practice squirm (I mean "shoot") invaluable. It serves so many useful purposes; to get to know the couple better and get on the same page about the big day logistics/group shots and to get the couple used to being papped. But not only do they go into the wedding day having seen their pics but it makes the wedding portraits quicker so they're quickly back at the party with their guests!

I've been going through 2025's wonderful weddings I've been going through 2025's wonderful weddings for my end of year round-up highlights blog and thought I'd post daily themed highlights for the 12 days of Christmas!

So on the 2nd day of Christmas my true love (photography!) gave to me… WEDDING MOMENTS!

By all accounts, I'm a moment hunter! Between hitting the big beats of a wedding - the kiss, confetti, family groups, portraits, speeches, first dance etc - there's a whole world of moments to capture.

Whether it's a flower girl reaching up for a gowning up bride's hand in support, or a guest having a disco nap after overdoing it on the limoncello... a groomsman appearing mid reception with a wheelbarrow full of crisps, a guest bottle feeding his 6 week old baby while he drinks a bottle of beer or ... it's all gold!

These are moments I believe newlyweds both miss in the wedding whirlwind and cherish in the aftermath! And it's my magic job to chase these big and little moments down.

What a job! 🤟😄 📷
