Wedding photos at Cowparsley Weddings in South Stainley, near Harrogate: Nat + Tom

It was a the perfect sunny summers day for a wedding! After relaxed preparations with Nat and the girls at the Yorkshire Hotel in Harrogate I headed over to Bilton House, Harrogate’s registry office, to join Tom and team groom. The early 11am ceremony was lovely and after hugs and a shower of confetti, off […]

On the 11th day of Christmas my true love gave to On the 11th day of Christmas my true love gave to me… THE BIG REVEAL!

Some moments at weddings have latent electricity and are just a joy to capture. Once the bride has got through the often slightly stressful gowning up, and the clock starts ticking down to go time, it's fun to get dad behind the door, and set the groundwork for a bit of magic...

I don't want to stage it, I just want to 'set the stage' for whatever could come. Some dad's cry... some bride cry... bridesmaids & mum's start flapping hands and looking at the ceiling. (I'm not sure the makeup artists always thank me for it!)

There's micro moments going on everywhere, and I'm often torn where to look myself as a tear wells in my viewfinder. But as a dad of a daughter now, I often fleetingly wonder what it'll be like for this to be me, one day. My little 2 year old girl, in a white gown that essentially says they're moving into a lifelong commitment with another significant man... It's pretty seismic, and can crack even the coldest stone of a dad!

Sometimes a bride gets ready away from bridesmaids and there's a reveal opportunity with them. Other times, Dad's sadly no longer with us and a son / nephew step up emotionally (and in a case this year, as a surprise to the bride had her dads cufflinks and tie pin on)

Occasionally, a couple opt for a non-traditional but often super lovely 'first look', where once everyone's gone in, the groom waits somewhere for 5 minutes with his bride before the ceremony and it's also an electric sequence that's super lovely to capture.

Anyhoo! I wax too lyrically, take a look at these lovely big reveal / first look moments from the fab weddings of 2025!

On the 10th day of Christmas my true love gave to On the 10th day of Christmas my true love gave to me… GROUP PHOTOS THAT DON'T CRINGE!

I'd say in a poll of couples, wedding attendees and wedding photographers, that the highlight of the day is rarely doing the official group pics! And yet, when I see which pics get printed, guess what, they're mainly the group shots!

Happy New Years Eve by the way! I wonder if you've got a load of people coming over to party tonight? And I wonder if you'll take a pic of everyone, and share it?

Group photos are actually one of the most significant time capsules from the day. That everyone shot is a banger to look back at in a decade. Didn't we look hot!? They split up. They're sadly no longer with us. Aww, we should get back in touch with them. And them...

So to me, doing groupshots well, and making them fun is SOOOO important. No cringe, no ick, just creative, quick and slick! Ultimately I want my couple to be at their wedding reception for the maximum possible duration. Their pre-wedding meet is both to train them for quick portraits and to pin down that groupshot list so we can pile through it, in the right order in the fastest time.

And if you've got a dog. Or 2 ponies. GET EM INVOLVED!

It's no surprise that hardly any group pics are shot in portrait format, so there aren't many full slide filling zingers, but here's a mosaic of my fave groupshots from the weddings across 2025!

🎉 And what a celebration this Black Tie banger turned out to be! 🪩

The winter sun shone all day! Morning preps had fab energy (and ‘It’s Raining Men’ dance breaks!). The wedding cars rocked (a stunning 1969 Aston Martin DBS and a navy Landrover Defender). The ceremony in their local church was a beaut. The reception looked stunning, in a marquee hidden inside their family plant nursery barn!). Speeches were that perfect blend of hilarious heart warming!

And the evening! OMG! The best New Year’s Eve party evs! Champagne firing, sparklers, sparkly ski shots and a lit dancefloor!!)

What a blast… And what a way to end the year!

Happy New Year folks! I hope you had a lovely cele Happy New Year folks! I hope you had a lovely celebration last night!

On the 8th day of Christmas my true love gave to me... CONFETTI! And what a perfect way to welcome in a both newlyweds and New Year!

You'd think after almost 20 years of shooting it, I might have lost the love for confetti, but YOU'D BE WRONG!

On an ideal day, it's dry and the couple skip down the aisle, get a massive congratulatory hug from at least half the guests, then I hop up on a chair and begin the herding of fog for an epic confetti shot! 🎉

I discuss at the pre-wedding practice shoot about whether a couple fancy a confetti tunnel or my 'signature' CONFETTI BOMB! Both are ace, and as you'll see in these fave confetti moments from all the wonderful weddings from LAST YEAR, both rock!

The TUNNEL is the trad option, and in my experience and in spite of cheerfully telling guests to throw over and not at the couple, has a potential tendency of looking like the couple are being hailed with gravel (and even get it in their mouths half way down the line!).

The BOMB on the other hand is done (often after the everyone group shot) within a sea of guests and they all throw at once while a the newlyweds smooch! This semi negates mouth confetti; though the couples champagne glasses usually end up full of petals or rice paper!

Pro Tip: Avoid dusty small bitty lavender-y dried eBay confetti, as it's a nightmare to pick out of bridal hair! IMO colourful, biodegradable, or mid to large petals work best!

I pride myself in making them awesome and quick, so guests can get back to canapés / binge drinking while I power through the family shots!

I hope you enjoy the selection and have a very Happy New Year indeed! What kinda confetti are you considering?!

Happy New Year's Eve! Forgive me for flogging on Happy New Year's Eve!

Forgive me for flogging on with the days of Christmas here, but as it's a time to celebrate the welcoming in a new year... on the 7th day of Christmas my true love gave to me…
EVENING PARTY SHENANIGANS!

Essentially, a wedding is one big party, right?! And from the cake cut onwards, we are ALL in party mode! And I'm not going home until I've captured it!

I love the frisson of setting up flashes for both an awesome cake cut shot followed immediately by first dance and the subsequent pile on. The blaze of trying to get a couple's big twirl, or routine, and then capture the father daughter dance, or the crazy characters rocking out, cutting loose and cutting shapes.

Across 2025 we had a pre-first dance Italian tradition of 'the 'auctioning of the tie' where a rawcuss team literally cut the grooms tie to ribbons and sold off the parts to cover the couples honeymoon (nice idea!). Then after first dance the musical groom proceeded to join the band to play a bluegrass rendition of Toy Story's 'You've Got A Friend In Me'! You can't write this stuff.

I just love doing what I do and don't work to a clock, or number of hours coverage, I go when I'm happy that the evening shenanigan story has been told! So I hope you love these fave evening party moments picked from across 2025's fab weddings! Do check out end of year blog if you'd like to see more!

On the 5th day of Christmas my true love gave to m On the 5th day of Christmas my true love gave to me… (I've been waiting for this one!) FIVE GOLDEN RINGS!

We all know that's the best line in the song right?! And it's just too good for wedding photos, as I'm taking pics of rings at every wedding!

I love trying to make a ring shot special. It's often harder than it looks, to add a bit of frame filling story and context around a couple of 'unbroken circles'! But they are so significant to the couple; the outward symbol of their union (I'm paraphrasing from the ceremony script I've heard a thousand times!) and even the colour and style they've chosen, will be worn until death do them part.

So it's more than just a snap of a wedding detail, it's a potentially creative opportunity to say something about them back to them with their rings. Be that the safe hands they're in, or the moment of exchange.

Or that the groom had to sellotape scraps of initialled paper to each ring box last-minute to guide his 'best' man when his moment comes!
